Why Buy a Set?

It is strongly recommended that when you purchase a new mattress, that you also purchase the matching box spring, or “foundation.”  While your current foundation may look good and seem to work just fine, it is not designed to provide optimal support to your new Serta mattress.  Most importantly, your old foundation may not meet today’s Federal Flammability Standard.

The mattress foundation is the “base” of the sleep set that works in unison with the mattress to provide proper support and durability.  It is designed to complement the performance of the mattress.  Purchasing jut the mattress or foundation alone does reduce the overall durability and longevity of your mattress set.

The federal mattress flammability standard, 16 CFR Part 1633, went into effect on July 1, 2007.  Fire tests show that, in many cases, a 1633-compliant mattress that is used with a pre-standard box spring will fail the standard’s testing requirements.  So mixing a new mattress with an old foundation may pose a safety risk to consumers.  The mattress and foundation should both be replaced, as a set, at the same time.

Mattresses have a matching foundation that provides consistent support across the bottom of the mattress and lasting durability to the entire sleep set.  Its unique V-shaped construction isolates the impact of one sleep partner’s movements from the other.  Matching foundations deliver durability and strength from the ground up and is more than twice as strong as traditional wood frames.

Purchasing the set-the mattress and the foundation- will guarantee that your new mattress set meets the current Federal Flammability Standard and will enhance the performance of your mattress for years to come.
